But these days most of us don’t have a lot of extra cash lying around to fund an extravagant break away.
So where should you go for a cheap trip and which destinations are going to cost you an arm and a leg?
Traveller’s Elixir researched 60 locations around the globe and determined the most and least expensive destinations by analysing average hotel and food prices, transportation costs and attraction prices.
Coming in hot at number one for the cheapest destination for a five night stay is Delhi, India.
It’s so cheap that your stay will amount to just £145 with the average three-star hotel room costing you just £15 per night.
