Saudi Arabia postpones major sporting events amid Houthi attacks
Several major sporting events in Saudi Arabia have been cancelled or postponed due to attacks from Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have held the Kingdom ransom by targeting country’s airports and infrastructure. The immediate situation involves widespread disruption affecting the sporting calendar in the Kingdom.
This was a last ditch cancellation, something the Saudi Authorities have been trying to avoid. Cancelling several major sporting events in Saudi Arabia due to ongoing attacks means all the ‘sports-washing’ PR efforts have to be reset. A major blow for the Saudi’s who recently learned the US, at the behest of Israel, will not get involved in the fight.
Saudi Arabian authorities no information on when events might be rescheduled which demonstrates the magnitude of this war. Failing to contain a minority guerrilla army is major blow international scale for the Saudi Army. In light of the situation, The Kingdom is considering invoking its latest alliance with Pakistan and Turkey, but both countries know if they get involved in this war, they’ll be playing into Israel’s and Indian’s hand.
