A Russian missile struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge on Sunday, injuring two people and damaging the road surface and trolleybus cables. The attack, confirmed by Russia’s Defence Ministry, led to the suspension of traffic on the bridge.
Kyiv’s Northern Bridge has sustained significant damage, with transportation operations suspended due to the destruction of road surfaces and trolleybus cables. Following the recent attacks, both government and military officials in Ukraine are heightening their responses, as President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasised a renewed focus on strikes against Russian oil refineries.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko confirmed the missile strike on the Northern Bridge had injured two people and disrupted traffic, with damage to the road surface and trolleybus cables. In response to escalating attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to intensify airstrikes on Russian oil refineries, while Russia has pledged to increase strikes on military facilities in Kyiv.
What remains unclear — The extent of the damage to infrastructure in Kyiv and the overall impact on civilian life following the recent missile strikes has not been fully assessed.
Russian missile strikes Kyiv’s Northern Bridge amid ongoing conflict
A Russian missile was caught on camera smashing into Kyiv’s Northern Bridge as Russia attempts to divide the Ukrainian capital.
The explosion injured two people sparking a huge plume of fire as cars crossed on their routine journeys on Sunday.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said the strike on the bridge damaged the road surface and trolleybus cables, forcing traffic to be suspended.
Russia’s Defence Ministry on Saturday confirmed it was behind the latest attack, claiming the bridge is used to ‘facilitate troop movements and the logistics of military cargo deliveries’ for Ukraine’s armed forces.
It is the second time the Northern Bridge has been hit in as many days and comes as the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the capital to see the destruction for himself and announce a new aid package for Ukraine worth more than 1.3 billion euros ($1.5 billion).
Kyiv’s Southern Bridge, which serves ground transportation and the city’s subway system, was hit five times in less than 24 hours on Friday.

Zelensky said Ukraine will now double down on attacking Russian oil refineries in response to a new policy of airstrikes by Moscow designed to force people to abandon Kyiv.
The intensifying campaign has seriously disrupted life for the capital’s 3 million residents ahead of the bitter winter months.
