Nora Aunor, one of the Philippines’ most celebrated and famous film stars, has sadly died at the age of 71.
The star’s passing was announced by her daughter, actor Lotlot de Leon, on social media.
‘It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nora Aunor, our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines.
‘Born on May 21, 1953, she touched generations with her unmatched talent, grace, and passion for the craft.
‘Her voice, presence, and artistry shaped a legacy that will never fade. “She was a star not only on screen, but in the hearts of many—and stars like hers never stop shining.”
The announcement revealed that details about the funeral will be revealed soon as they thanked fans for their love and support.
‘Her light lives on—forever loved, never forgotten,’ concluded the message.
A cause of death has still not been confirmed for the star, who has been remembered as a key figure in Filipino cinema.
The star was married to Filipino actor Christopher de Leon from 1975 to 1996. The couple had five children together.
Her son, Kristoffer Ian De Leon, paid tribute to his mother in a heartfelt post on Facebook.

Aunor was born into a poor family in the city of Iriga, but established her career over seven decades.
She was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022 – the Philippines’ highest honour for the arts.
The actor came to fame as a singer and made her debut in films in 1967 in the film All Over the World.
The star then appeared in various dramas in the 70s and 80s, including Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos (Three Years Without God), Himala (Miracle), and Bona.
In her later life, she also appealed to a more international audience, including Thy Womb (2012) and Dementia (2014).
The star won various awards throughout her lifetime, including 17 FAMAS Award nominations.
She also had 21 nominations for theGawad Urian Awards, making her one of the most nominated actresses in the history of the awards.
She was also a “Hall of Fame” inductee, winning five Best Actress Awards.
