Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warned that Germany is falling behind in the artificial intelligence race as he spoke to members of the media in London last week.
Despite its strong potential and wealth of talent, Huang believes progress in Europe is being blocked by too much hesitation and analysis and has called on policymakers to be quicker to put AI into practice.
In response to concerns about the country’s technological competitiveness, the German government has been planning closer cooperation with the US company.
At the Invest in Germany investment summit in Berlin this week, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Huang are set to unveil a joint AI pact intended to speed up the integration of AI products across German industry.
The German government is preparing to commit hundreds of millions of Euros to the initiative.
Alongside start-up Black Forest Labs, around 10 established German companies including Siemens and Audi are expected to take part.
The partnership builds on the Sovereign Open Source Foundation Models initiative, an alliance dedicated to developing powerful open-source AI systems.
The funding is to be used primarily to buy computing capacity in Deutsche Telekom’s Industrial AI Cloud, which is equipped with Nvidia’s latest Blackwell hardware.
The government hopes the investment will make Germany a more attractive destination for innovation and technological development.
On Tuesday, senior international executives, investors and government officials at the Invest in Germany summit will discuss new investment in Germany, focusing on artificial intelligence, energy and infrastructure, as well as the competitiveness of the German economy.
