Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban and a fine of £35,000 for comments he made following Monday’s feisty clash between Fenerbahce and Galatasary.

After a 0-0 draw in the top-of-the-table Turkish Super Lig clash, Mourinho launched into an explosive post-match press conference in which he said the Galatasaray bench were ‘jumping like monkeys’ following an early challenge.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager also said the match was better for being refereed by Slovenian Slavko Vincic rather than Turkish officials.

Shortly following Mourinho’s comments, Galatasaray said they planned to launch criminal proceedings, claiming the Fenerbahce boss made ‘derogatory statements’ about Turkish people.

The Turkish league leaders also confirmed their intention to submit complaints to governing bodies UEFA and FIFA.

And while his club – and former player such as Didier Drogba – have stood behind Mourinho, the 62-year-old has now been charged for two separate offences by the Turkish Football Federation (FDT).

The first relates to comments made by Mourinho after the game towards match officials which the FDT found to be ‘derogatory and offensive’.

‘[He] accused Turkish football of chaos and disorder with insulting and offensive statements towards both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees, and his actions and statements that insulted the brand value of football activities in Turkey,’ the FDT added.

Addressing the comments Mourinho made about Galatasaray players in his press conference, the federation added: ‘In the same competition, (Mourinho’s) statements made at the press conference after the match and which are the subject of the referral were referred to our Board within the scope of Article 41 of the FDT.

Galatasary planning criminal proceedings

‘Considering the nature of the statements, it was determined that the statements used towards the members of the opposing team, were not mandatory, were contrary to the ethics of sports and the concept of fair play, contained expressions that could encourage violence and disorder in sports, were divisive and separatist in society and could cause fan incidents, and it was deemed an act against sportsmanship.’

Mourinho was given two-match bans for both offences as well as fines which combined totalled more than £35,000.

The touchline bans mean the Portugese coach will miss his side’s upcoming league games against Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Bodrum and Trabzonspor.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s manager Okan Buruk, who referred to Mourinho as ‘the crying one’ after the game, was also given a one-match ban.

A section of Galatasary fans will also not be allowed at the club’s next home match, while Fenerbahce will not be allowed to have supporters at their next two away matches following incidents during the match.
