Andy Murray feels he is capable of beating ‘most’ players in the draw (Picture: Getty)
Andy Murray has sent a message to his Wimbledon title rivals after booking his spot in the second round on Tuesday.
Murray impressed in a dominant 6-3 6-0 6-1 win over fellow British player Ryan Peniston on Centre Court and next plays Stefanos Tsitsipas or Dominic Thiem.
The 36-year-old, who plays with a metal hip, won two titles on grass ahead of this year’s Championships in what has been a resurgence after career-saving surgery.
Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has warned the likes of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz that is is capable of beating almost anyone in SW19.
‘I’m playing well enough to beat most of the players, I think, in the draw if I play well,’ Murray said in his post-match press conference.
‘Physically, I feel good. Yeah, physically I feel absolutely fine right now.’
Asked about how far he can go this year and about his potential matches further into the tournament, Murray added: ‘I hadn’t actually looked at the draw, so I didn’t know who the seed was in my section.

‘I got asked the other day. I didn’t know it was Tsitsipas and Thiem that I played the winner of until someone mentioned it to me the other day.
‘I’m trying to play each match. You don’t know which players are going to get through.
‘My mind will be on the next match on Thursday. Thiem and Tsitsipas both have great pedigree. Both played extremely well in the Slams over the years. Very experienced. My mind will be on that one.’
