A 12-year-old boy has been charged with sexual assault after a woman in her 60s was found with serious injuries.

The woman was discovered at an address in Birmingham shortly before 6.15pm on Wednesday, March 18.

She remained in a serious condition in hospital, police said.

Police arrested a 12-year-old boy following the incident, and he has since been charged with wounding and sexual assault.

The boy, who cannot legally be named, was also separately charged with intentional strangulation in connection with a woman being confronted in a street last month, police added.

Officers said he was also charged with a separate theft incident on March 18.

West Midlands Police said: ‘We’ve charged a boy after a woman was found with serious injuries at an address in Birmingham.

“She remains in a serious condition in hospital. A 12-year-old boy was arrested and has since been charged with wounding and sexual assault.

‘He’s also been charged with a separate theft matter last Wednesday and intentional strangulation after a woman was confronted in the street last month.

‘The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, is remanded to appear before Birmingham Youth Court tomorrow, March 24.

‘Our enquiries remain ongoing, but we understand how concerning this will be within the community.

‘Our officers will be continuing to provide reassurance in the local area.’
